Should I stick with WordPress?
I am thinking of switching to blogspot or another blog thingy (platform? Is that what they’re called?).
I like the fact that people with blogspot blogs seem to be able to add loads of widgets, whereas with WordPress, I think you have to pay for them.
Any thoughts as to which is the best?

Weirdly enough, I am contemplating moving from blogger (blogspot) to wordpress because it seems more flexible… (integrated statistics, bigger communities, more designs…).

On the other hand, it would appear that you cannot modify the style sheet of your blog yourself under wordpress unless you pay… (you can with blogger, even though I don’t know how interested you are in the possibility of messing with CSS).

I have a blogger and a wordpress blog. Blogger has loads more widgets and it’s much easier to customise your blog without needing any (or only very limited) knowledge of css/html. WordPress has protected posts, integrated stats, but the free hosting service is very limited when it comes to customising your blog. You either need to know how to write/edit css, or you need to chose the pay service (with a personal domain name though!).
I don’t have the time or the inclination to improve my very basic programming skills, so Blogger is great for my main blog. My French experiment blog is on wordpress and that’s fine too because I don’t want to spend as much time on it as I do on attentionallshipping.
I’d say Blogger is the best choice if you want easy customisation options.

Thanks ladies… I think I may switch to blogger. I want to think of a new name for the new blog … and once I’ve done that, I’ll will make the move!

I only have experience of blogger - which I find OK apart from the fact I can’t write posts beforehand and then programme them to appear at a given time - (at least, I don’t think I can!) - which would be really convenient for me.
Boris won…I’m still reeling…

If I understand the comment from “lalalis”, you wouldn’t have been able to password-protect a single post…

other than that, I don’t have enough knowledge to comment.

Mya, actually, you can, it’s a fairly recent functionality! See: http://buzz.blogger.com/2008/05/blogger-now-schedules-future-dated.html

Go with a shift to blogger but keep this one alive and kicking while you try on your new shoes (so to speak).
When you’re sure everything’s hunky and dory migrate your old posts or put this one in to stasis or whatever.
But don’t cut and run, try it on for size first.

I love Blogger, I tried out wordpress but I missed easy widget application and being able to totally customise my blog with the html thingymajig. I always worry though, who owns my blog, me or google, and if it’s not me…well, over a year’s worth of posts could disappear and I can do nothing about that.
Eeee must back up my blog!!
Let us know if you do move!

I have just followed the link from Ashish, and the final point is that Blogger apparently does not allow import from other blogs; hence you may not be able to move your existing posts.

SG.
A few of thoughts for you.
Golden rule of any website or book for that matter is that the content is king. You have a good blog with good content which is why we read it. I have not got time to read thousands of blogs. I read about 3 all the time and yours is one of them. In my view it beats the pants off all the very famous ones.
Point two. You don’t need gadgets and gizmos. Let me ask you when was the last time having read a really good book did you tell anyone about the cover? However we have all bought really crap books with great covers. Which would you prefer to buy and read?
thirdly, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
Last but not least people with sites and blogs get so bogged down in other stuff that they forget that it is a blog, a hobby, a fun thing, not the end of the earth. Its a blog about your life it should not be your life.
What about getting out of the job you hate rather than worrying about blogger or wordpress?
Your loving Uncle
Norman
Ps
Keep me posted on the hoover because mine appears to have kicked the bucket.

Dear all,
Thanks for the advice…
Mya: hope your not-being-able-to-write-stuff-in-advance problem is now solved thanks to Citronella’s comment!
Pierre: yes, the passwording issue is something to consider… but I think I would be happy to not migrate posts and just have a link somewhere on the new blog … maybe …
Bren: good point… perhaps I’ll do that …
UN: sensible advice as ever - thanks. And the hoover is FAB! Definitely recommend a Miele!!
Ashish: thanks for the link!
Princesse: backing up sounds like a good plan … although I would have no idea how to do it!
