Boris and my new vacuum cleaner
I still can’t believe that over a million people voted for bumbling Boris Johnson, and that he is now mayor of London.
Actually I can believe it. There are so many posh twits in London who would have voted for him. And also people who are too young to appreciate the full horror of a Conservative government. What a nightmare.
That said, in his acceptance speech at City Hall on Friday, Boris was rather gracious about Ken, and I hope that they can find a way to work together. I suppose we have no choice but to give him the benfit of the doubt now.
On a brighter note, I went to pick up my lovely new Miele vacuum cleaner yesterday! I know it sounds boring, but this little beauty is going to change my life! (or least make my flat appear a bit cleaner)

“The full horror of a Conservative government”. Ah yes. I didn’t vote in the most recent general election, who knows if I’ll vote in the next? I am deeply ashamed of my failure to participate in the democratic process, I might add. But who to vote for? Labour are bumbling around and having nasty spatty in-fighting episodes. The LibDems are the closest thing we have to a socialist party, but is it a wasted vote? And the Tories. No, sorry, I’m allergic to the Tories. Couldn’t vote for them. Yuck.

But can you vote in the UK if you live in France? I never did when I was there … oh, maybe postal votes, I suppose?? Can you still vote in local elections as an ex-pat, too? Shows how much interest I had in politics in my twenties!

I touch on the central problem to this election in this week’s podcast.
My thinking goes like this…
If 40% of the electorate voted.
And 50% of that electorate voted for Boris.
That means that 80% of the electorate didn’t vote for Boris.
And he still gets in?
The system is broken.
