A long shot, I know … but does anyone know the English word for “lota” ? It’s a long, green, stringy vegetable used in Bengali cuisine.
Can’t seem to find the answer on the web and my students need to know for a guide they are writing about East London markets.
All ideas appreciated – thank you! [...]

My love/ hate relationship with running
When I’m doing it, I love it; I feel energised and healthy. But over the last couple weeks, I have completely lacked motivation to get out of the flat.
Normally it’s because I’m tired from work, even though, ironically, running makes me feel more alert and awake. It also takes up lots of time … something I’m [...]

It’s my birthday …!
Well, not quite yet, but soon. Hooray!
I love my birthday, but normally I don’t celebrate it as such. Usually I just take the day off work and chill out at home, or walk around by myself with a secret smile, knowing that today is my special day!
But this year, Maths Chick suggested that I actually [...]

Pissed/ pissed off
Before I’m named and shamed by Health Professions’ Council*, I have to point out that I did not “get pissed with the techy guy” at work on Friday - that was obviously a typo on my part :-) . That said, it would certainly have made my afternoon more interesting if a really fit IT guy with a nice [...]

Don’t know what to write, so …
Saw this meme thingy on Amy’s blog.

1. Lived in Lannion (Brittany)
2. Took the fateful decision to apply to do a Masters in Speech Therapy
3. Worked as a translator
4. Lost two of my [...]

My inbox
Last Wednesday morning my class was taken by someone else and I was able to sit and observe. It was the first time in ages that I’d actually had nothing to do. I mean, I obviously had something to do, i.e. observe her teaching and learn from it. But while the students were writing or getting on with other tasks, [...]

Football and stuff
I was feeling pretty apathetic about the football until I got home from work and L. announced he would be commandeering the remote control from 7 till 10pm this evening. He almost had a seizure when I mentioned that The Apprentice was on at 9 o’clock and that I was rather keen on watching that. So now I am [...]

Classroom cannibalism
I am really pleased with the progress my students have made since they started their course. However, after marking their latest lot of homework (writing about what they did at the weekend), I wonder whether I should actually be reporting one of them to the police …
“On Saturday I went to Sainsbury. After I came back home. After [...]

Should I stick with WordPress?
I am thinking of switching to blogspot or another blog thingy (platform? Is that what they’re called?).
I like the fact that people with blogspot blogs seem to be able to add loads of widgets, whereas with WordPress, I think you have to pay for them.
Any thoughts as to which is the best?
