More reports
7pm
No Spanish tonight. Instead I am at home having a marathon SLT report-writing session.
I am going to limit the time I spend on each one to 40-45 minutes and try and get the majority done this evening.
Once I’ve caught up, I can concentrate on finding an alternative career.
Update 8pm
1 down 14 to go.
Update 10pm
Maybe it’s the glass of Vouvray that I’ve just drunk, but I’m suddenly feeling a lot more relaxed about all these reports I’ve got to do (and I’m only halfway through the second one … so much for 15 in one evening!)
Maybe one or two a day for the next two weeks is more realistic … but they’re already overdue. And there are always new ones being added to the list as I see more children for appointments. I just can’t write them quick enough!
What I really want to do is sit down and have another glass of wine and watch an episode of Rome …
I really can’t remember what life before SLT and report-writing was like. I have been writing reports non-stop for five years! (OK, a slight exaggeration, but that’s what it feels like right now).
Right, one more report before a late night rendez-vous with the Romans.
Update 10.15pm
Sod it. I’m throwing in the towel for this evening. 2 reports (and a large dollop of faff) in 3 hours. A rubbish total, but a start, nonetheless. Titus Pullo awaits.

I remember watching the early episodes of Rome, and intending to get the DVD (partly because one of my favourite actresses is in it - Haydn Gwynne). Do you recommend Rome?
Let’s hope you will manage to make progress with these reports sometime.

SG I am going to give you a blocking. If you take work home do they pay you more? I suspect the answer is no.
Are surgeon expected to clear their kitchen tables to whip outn the odd appendix or gall bladder. No
If you don’t turn up at work somebody would say something and you would not get paid.
Organisations bandy the word professional around a lot these days. Get the powers that be to look up its meaning. It means you do something for financial renumeration. That is it.
I don’t know much about you or your life but this is not good. I know you know that.
Stop it now, you wont get any thanks. I would suggest that you say to those who run the shop enough is enough. Be honest and frank. Set work time aside for the reports. If they don’t get written in the 9-5 allocated period then tough shit they will have to get done tomorrow.
I hope you take this in the spirit in which it is intended.

You do sound very dedicated SG. But if you are working on reports all night - and working all day too - when do you get to have some fun?

Pierre: Rome is brill and I defintely recommend it! Who does Haydn Gwynne play?
UN: You are so right. It’s what everyone has been saying to me and it’s good to hear it again.
Mya: I have no fun at the moment.
Things really need to change.
Brennig: I may take you up on that. Do you know about careers guidance and stuff then? Maybe I’ll put my CV on line and see if there are any takers!

Hello SG. If you were thinking of putting your CV on-line, http://www.jobsite.co.uk worked for when I was looking for an IT job after redundancy. They list 21 openings for speech therapists at the moment…
If you haven’t come across that site before, http://www.imdb.com is a good place to find out who was in a film or TV series. A long time ago, when she had magnificent long hair, Haydn Gwynne played Alex in Drop the Dead Donkey. She was Calpurnia in 5 episodes of Rome (but I am not sure I have seen any of them).

I guess I know about that sort of thing. In one of my roles I’m a management consultant to private and public sector organisations.
