Work-a-thon

I’ve been so busy in the last few weeks that I haven’t had the time or the energy to blog.

Unfortunately, I haven’t been out on the razz; I’ve mainly been working. Instead of my contracted hours (7.5 a day), I’ve been spending up to ten hours a day in the clinic, and have even been writing reports on my days off.  It hasn’t been much fun, I can tell you.

I mentioned how much work I was doing to my supervisor during supervision the other day.  I told her I had been staying late to finish off reports and had even taken one home (actually, I am constantly taking reports home, but I didn’t want to look incompetent).  She said, “oh yes, I took a report home once - never again!”

I don’t always spend ten hours a day in the clinic, and I do have a lot of work on at the moment.  However, I do seem to spend more time at work than my colleagues.  Why is this?  Am I just really bad at managing my time and workload?

Mathschick suggested that perhaps I’m being too much of a perfectionist in my report-writing.  That may be part of the problem, but even when I write ‘less-than-perfect’ reports, it still takes me ages.  Perhaps it’s because I’m so easily distracted and end up checking my e-mails/fantasising about politicians every ten minutes when I should really just be knuckling down and churning the damn things out.

Oh I don’t know.

What I do know is that I hate constantly having reports and case notes outstanding.  I hate rushing to meet the deadline of two weeks that is set between seeing a child and completing the report.  I hate always having to juggle about ten different children’s cases.  I hate staying late, and I hate working at weekends.

Basically I’m really desperate to leave SLT …

… which makes the fact that I start a new non-SLT job next week very good news indeed ;-)

Hello SG. I trust you are telling us that you are leaving your SLT job and starting something different rather than having two jobs. So, congratulations, well done and good luck.

Hang on a minute? Have I missed something?? Is this the job you hinted at a few weeks ago? Best of luck with it - whatever it is!

Hooray! Congratulations on the new non slt job! New beginnings eh?! Grand!

As for the whole outstanding reports and notes…I really hate that too. It’s almost like a phobia of mine. I can’t stand knowing I have reports to do, which is why doing my dissertation (which you will remember took oh so long to complete) did my nut in!!!! My sympathy is with you petal!

I could go into far too much detail about SG’s perfectionist streak. I only need to think of our GCSE music composition, which involved SG throwing dice until 4am to come up with a piece of “perfectly random” music, which she made a score of and then proceeded to throw it all away cause her piece didn’t sound good enough. Perfectionist indeed.

    I rest my case.
