I met Gerry Adams today
It was in Waterstones in Gower Street, near UCL. He was there signing copies of his new book “An Irish Eye”, and I was in awe at meeting such a famous and influential man. I didn’t know what to say to him apart from “fine”, when he asked “how’re you doing?”, and “it’s for my friend, X” as I handed him the book to sign. He looked older than I had expected. He was polite, charismatic and softly spoken.
The book signing was a very quiet affair - other than the burly security guards (IRA men?) surrounding him, of course. Funny how he is now able to sit in the centre of London and sign copies of his book, whereas when I was growing up, his voice wasn’t even allowed to be broadcast on TV. How things have changed - for the better, of course.

Les choix de paix et de démocracie (qui implique la liberté) des gens sont en train de déferler sur le RU et l’Irlande du nord. A la place des larmes, le sourire de Gerry.
Let us hope that this book will result in some action: make people understand each other, understand what happened to alleviate the pain and suffering of the victims, and prevent future war.
Espérons que ce livre aura des répercutions : que les gens vont se comprendre, comprendre ce qui s’est passé, et soulager les peines et les souffrances des victimes et empêcher une autre guerre.
