Paperclip, part 2
Regular readers of this blog will remember that, a while back, I wrote a riveting post about a paperclip which I had found in a biscuit I was eating. A couple of days later, having nothing better to do, I wrote a letter of complaint to Foxes outlining the trauma I had suffered. (Oh yes, it was traumatic
).
All of you who have been thinking about nothing else since will be glad to know that, a few days ago, I received a reply from Foxes… along with a cheque for £10. They said they were sorry for the “disappointment and … inconvenience caused” but that they were “at a loss to explain how a complaint of this nature occurred”.
Apparently they put the paperclip back through the metal detector on the production line where the biscuit was manufactured and it was rejected. They concluded that the “paperclip in question does not appear to have been baked into the product”. In other words, they thought I’d made the whole thing up!
I should probably write back again and threaten legal action, or at least ask for a few months’ supply of their Favourites Assortments. (My friend A. once found the tip of a hypodermic needle in a Fray Bentos pie and they sent her 150 quid!) However, what with my on-going battle with TalkTalk (spit), plus the fact that I am still waiting for my £5 voucher from Dotty P.’s as compensation for the green slime saga, I fear turning into some sort of crazed Esther Rantzen type if I’m not careful.
I think I’ll just take the money and run.

Take the money and run! I don’t think they’ll offer any more (they already think you’re a chancer - snooty sods). Good for you for taking the time to complain in the first place, so many folk just take the “not worth the hassle/time/price of a stamp” attitude. You consumer champion you.
PS - thought of you yesterday when I heard TT had come bottom of a customer satisfaction survey. B’stards.

It reminds me of a Vicky Pollard anecdote! So many Brits don’t complain though, and that makes it harder for those of us who do! I’m a real whiney cow if something’s not up to standard, especially in restaurants, Jez has started burying his head when I get going!

Despina: Know what you mean about complaining and Brits being reluctant to do so generally. I think I’ve gone a bit over the top though recently!
