Running

I signed up to do a 5 km run with one of my oldest and bestest friends about three months ago.  Plenty of time to get fit, I thought.  No need to start training straightaway.  Ha!

The days went by.  Days turned in weeks and weeks turned into months.  Now the run is only 7 days away … and I’ve done hardly any training!  Oh shit.

I did actually start a couple of weeks ago, and was beginning to enjoy it.  I felt fitter within days, my legs felt more toned and I seemed to have more energy.  And then I hurt my back and had to stop.

I went for my first run in ten days last night.  I ran for 25 minutes without stopping and was absolutely knackered.  Not sure how far I went - certainly not 5 km.  I’m going to try and run every day between now and next Friday (the race is on Saturday) … and hopefully I won’t shame myself too much.

Wish me luck!

Are you running to fundraise for something, or because it seemed like a good idea all these months ago. It does sound very difficult if you haven’t been able to train. Let us know how you get on and good luck!

Hey good for you. I’m impressed, 25 minutes! The first time I ran (after a long time of being a slob), I think I managed 8 minutes :|
My brother is training for a 10k, but I don’t know when it is. Hope you get on OK and you don’t collapse in a heap before the end (after the end it’s oK hahah).

I went running with a boyfriend once, as a kind of “date”. Never have I been more embarrassed.
Best of luck to you, I’m sure you’ll do great! Is it for a good cause? Keep posting!

Thanks for all your good wishes!
    It’s for charity (Cancer Research).
I ran last night and the night before that - that’s now three nights in a row! (shock horror!)

Despina: I went a “date” once with an ex-boyfriend which involved mountain-biking across a moor in Devon. I hated every second. It was so tiring going uphill, and going downhill was just really scary as the bike kept skidding and I was convinced I was going to fall off. He was totally unsympathetic. Actually he was a twat for many other reasons as well. The relationship didn’t last long, as you can imagine.

So come on then, how was it? I ran up a hill in 32 degree heat today, but it was a teeny tiny hill! I hope you didn’t collapse til well after the finish!

Hope you finished your run safely and have kept your feet dry since.

From the news this weekend, it looks very much like Stratford is struggling to keep itself afloat at the moment.

Best wishes for a fall in those floodwaters ahead.

I’m curious too! How did the run go? You’re a brave lass for doing that, I have to say. I can’t run. I hate it too much. And I could never ever run for anything more than 3 minutes. And then my face gets really red and sweaty and I’m so out of breath that I think I might die.

Maybe I should try getting fit…

Anyway let us know how you got on!

Welcome Roads and thanks for your comment! I’ll check out your blog now …!
Actually there was no flooding here - were you thinking of Stratford upon Avon? (I’m in East London - for my sins)

    Ah, yes - that Stratford.

No worries about wet feet, then. Just the perpetual damp spirit of any West Ham supporter, perhaps.

I know it all too well. You see, you can take the boy out of the East End, but you can’t take the lifelong fear of relegation out of the man …
