My name is Stratford Girl …
… and I’m a blog-a-holic.
I’ve realised that I’ve become a bit obsessed with blogs recently. I am a latecomer to the world of blogging … I only really discovered what they were when I read about Petite Anglaise being dooced in a newspaper. In a short space of time, I’ve gone from reading one blog a day to a frankly alarming number.
Now, each time I switch on the computer I have to find out what Despina and Princesse have been up to, check in with Mya in France, get the latest from Uncle Norman and his surreal life, catch up with Petite and Tadpole, and have a look at Lucy Pepper’s new artwork … to name but a few.
I also have to read my real-life friends’ blogs … and, of course, I have my own blog now, too.
All in all, it can be pretty time-consuming. It would be very easy to spend most of my life on the computer. So, I think I’m going to have to try and curb my usage a bit, and try not to forget that there was life before blogging.
But just before I go and do something in the real world, I think I’ll check out the latest addition to my blog roll … my God, where will it all end?
Update (Sunday 1st July): I was away Friday evening and yesterday, helping my sister move house. I was really getting blog withdrawal symptoms on the train on the way back to London. Then I thought I would try and get on-line from my phone. Oh dear. I have now worked out how to get on the internet, access my own blog, moderate comments and even write posts FROM MY MOBILE! Arrghghggh. This basically means I can blog anywhere, anytime. NIGHTMARE!

You’re not alone, if it’s any consolation. Blogging in particular and the internet in general can be frighteningly addictive. I have been thinking about introducing a “PC free day” in our house, where the laptop (me) and online gaming (hubby) are banished for 24 hours.
I did say thinking. It hasn’t happened yet…

Hello stratford girl. My name is rotten correspondent and I’m a blog-a-holic as well. I suppose there is comfort in company. I’m stopping by from Mya’s site and having a great time reading your blog. I’ll definitely be back!

Oh god, you and me both girl! I get withdrawal symptoms too… Far too much good stuff out there, half of it isn’t even on my blogroll. With my real-life friends on there I have a sort of understanding that we keep names etc private, I trust them all very much and I have to trust someone before they can access my blog! How do you feel about the “real-life you” blurring with the “blog you?”
Good luck with your web-free day Lis, I realised I had a problem when I began communicating with my man by commenting on his blog from my computer upstairs when he was working in the lounge!
Sorry I nicked all your space

Although I don’t have a blog of my own, I am sure I qualify as a blog-a-holic as well. I seem to spend a large proportion (nearly all?) of my spare time reading lovely blogs like yours and writing comments on some of them.

blog-reading can become a hugely compulsive thing - little shards into other people’s lives, and such - it can be a little disquieting sometimes but it’s interesting to know that there are always people out there thinking, writing…
Happy writing!

Thank you for the good words, SG. I don’t think I have enough things to say at the moment to keep my own blog fed (if I had one). But if I practice by writing comments, the perhaps one day…

SG. A very wise posting. People end up blogging more than living.
I recently spoke with a woman that read over 120 blogs a day and wrote three 2 herself. What kind of life did she lead? Well, she ended up clinically depressed suicidal and up to her neck in a really dodgy online relationship. Her husband left her and took the kids because she was neglecting them. But what got me was she was surprised. In the words of Homer Simpson “Dooh”.
I like you blog very much by the way.

Hi Norman,
Thanks for your comment and your kind words about my blog.
Can I take this opportunity to ‘publicly’ apologise for the harsh way in which I responded to a comment you left on Petite Anglaise’s blog a while back. I disagreed with what you said and didn’t like a couple of things you said in your first Uncle Norman post… but I was just damn rude in the way I responded to what you had written … I am sorry!
Since that time, I have become an avid reader of your blog… is it really all true? If so, what a surreal/ action packed life you lead!
Nice to have you here.

SG - You know they are right when they say sorry is the hardest word. So few people say it. Thank you most sincerely for your apology, but I don’t think you have anythng to apologise for. If you read something you disagree with you should be free to say so. I did with PA and you did with me. I was amused by the reaction to my comment on her site and by the girl herself, but hey ho all water under the bridge.
Yes the stories are true. Some of them are toned down and some of the places are changed slightly but otherwise it is as it happens.
Thanks again for your very kind comment I really do appreciate it.

SG, I had been wondering how I found you blog. Of course it was after you defended PA; I was pretty upset by Uncle Norman’s comments there as well, and said so. All this is water under the bridge, and I shall now go and visit Uncle Norman to see what the blog is like now. My previous visits to UN were tainted by silent anger - but I don’t believe in leaving comments against the owner of the blog.
